Glimpses Through The Rain - Chapter 5

CHAPTER 5

Mitch and Lei headed to the nearest shopping centre from the hospital where they first had their snacks, watched a movie and then shopped for baby-stuff like milk bottles, bottle-steamer, pillows and mattresses which are all in white color to be safe as they don’t know yet whether the baby is going to be a boy or a girl. Then they bought a set of cream-colored curtains which they thought of using as shutters for the baby’s window which they’ll setup sometime within that week. After shopping, they bought food for dinner which they intended to eat at home.

It was past eight o’clock when they reached home. The couple greeted Sissy with kisses and warm embrace, gave her dinner, spent time talking to her and playing with her. They shared to Sissy what had happened last night, what they did at the hospital in the afternoon and at the mall afterwards. Then, Mitch headed to the kitchen sink, washed his face and hands, and set their take-home dinner to the table while Lei headed for a shower upstairs.

“Dinner’s ready!” He was facing the kitchen sink, his back from the stairs. He announced it aloud to intentionally let Lei hear him as he thought she was still in their bedroom.

“I’m here, honey.” She answered as she was going down the stairs in her black satin night dress with her wet hair all flat-laid on her shoulders as it left a few dew-drop-like marks of water on her nape.

“Awwww! You look so gorgeous, love,” was all his reaction.

“Oh, sweet! Thank you, honey,” she responded.

“I think I’d like to take a pass on having dinner tonight. Would you?” he seductively moved toward Lei as he kissed her on the neck, then on her left ear and down to her cheeks.

“Hmmn...No dinner, you mean? Well, what are we having instead?” she smilingly asked while she giggled.

“Us. We’ll have us for dinner,” he replied as she laughed aloud. “I want to make love to my gorgeous wife, tonight." Mitch carried her in his arms and brought her upstairs to the master’s bedroom while they exchanged kisses on the way. Sissy was contented with the dinner given to her. Food set on the table was left out. Everything else got ignored throughout the night.

“Hon..Mitch, wake up, please.” Lei was trying to wake Mitch up at exactly midnight. Her hands were shaking. She was chilling and shaking.

“What is it, love? What's the problem?” Mitch curiously asked.

“I’m feeling so much pain. Right here. It really hurts,” was her answer as she placed both of her arms to her abdomen.

Mitch turned on the lights and saw that she was terribly perspiring even though their air-conditioning system was set at the normal comfortable cool level as they always had. He also noticed how her hands held her abdomen as if they were crumpling it to scare the pain away. He stood up, took his car key which was placed atop their coffee table, swinged it inside his pocket and suggested, "I'll carry your purse and other personal stuff while I assist you in walking down the stairs. Sorry, honey, can't carry you down the stairs, we'll both fall because my hands are terribly shaking now and all the lights are turned off. But once we're down there, I will carry you to our way to the garage."

"It's ok, hon. I can still walk. I can do this. Sorry to wake you up, Mitch," she apologized while she put on her sweater, got off the bed and head to the door. Mitch asked her to be careful and to watch her steps in going down.

Mitch walked closer to Lei, held her hands and while taking one careful step after the other, he comfortly said, "Lei, you know you can always wake me up. I wouldn't mind." "Well, always for one reason, you know.” They both managed to smile at his words. “But you also know that you can always wake me up especially for this reason. Geez! This is an emergency sweetheart," he insisted.

“I’ll call Doctor Ramirez while you drive. I am sure anyway that she’ll be asking me a lot of questions about what I’m feeling right now,” she instructed.

"Ok. I got your phonebook over here. I put it in your purse. I think all the things which you always need are also here, so don't worry," Mitch responded.

...to be continued.
