Glimpses Through The Rain - Chapter 11

CHAPTER 11

"Good morning, Lei, Mitch."

"Rosy?! Good morning. What are you doing here?" Lei saw the doctor coming in. She then moved her head to the right and found Mitch there, she stared back at her and then added, "I mean, I know this is a hospital, you're my doctor, but what are you doing here so early?"

Mitch and Lei just woke up. He stood up, stretched himself, and tucked-in the sofa bed which he used last night. He saw a note on the table that Ricky and Thessa left which read, out to buy food for breakfast.

"Good morning, Rosy," Mitch greeted. "Are you looking for Ricky and Thessa? They just went out to buy breakfast. They'll be back, shortly."

"Good morning, Mitch." Rosy made a quick look at her left wrist. "My clock says it's seven o'clock. Yes, I realized it's a little too early for my visit, Lei. But I wanted to visit you both before my Monday work-routine consumes me all morning and my afternoon will later drive me crazy for sure."

"So, you've got something for us?" Lei asked Mitch to sit at her right.

"Yes. I talked to Doctor Merideth Thompson last night. She'll be back here in the state by eight o'clock tonight. Your therapy session will start tomorrow morning at nine o'clock but she instructed her secretary to give you an hour briefing about how the session's going to run for four days. Yesterday, Betty and I mentioned you'll have weekly sessions with her. As I've discussed with the doctor, she had to compress those seven days in a four-day session by extending the number of hours instead. So, that will be tomorrow until Friday. Their office is pretty stuffed these days, the secretary can only give that briefing later at four in the afternoon. She'll be giving you the list of activities which you'll find yourselves involved in for the duration of the therapy session. Do you have any question so far?"

The couple stared at each other, asked for something, silently. "No. None so far," Mitch said.

"Ok. I'll go on then. All those people we've informed yesterday about this whole situation will have to be involved in this therapy session, well in one way or another. I suggest you stay away from your house first to avoid any emotional conflict. I own a condo unit beside this hospital. I want you all to occupy that while you are undergoing therapy. I have a plane to catch at 4:45pm later, will be gone till Sunday for a talk in New York. My Monday appointment is fully booked so I'll be back here on Tuesday morning just in time for your laparoscopy."

"You want us to stay at your place?" Mitch asked.

"Yes. If that's ok with you, of course. It's already set. I've informed the condo management about you so they will be giving you access to all amenities including the pool and the gym. I've also asked them to give you my free treats to their bar and restaurants being its member. Both your families are welcome to stay there, too."

"Awwww, you're so sweet. Thank you, Rosy." Lei asked Rosy to embrace her.

"That's not a big deal, baby. That's the least I can do, I believe." Rosy tapped Lei's back.

"We can't thank you enough for all these." Mitch shook Rosy's hand.

"No thanks needed, Mitch. We're family. We all help each other. Oh and by the way, I almost forgot. Your mother and siblings will be here tomorrow afternoon. I'm sorry I really couldn't find any open flight earlier than that. Everybody seems flying everywhere every day, too."

"That's alright. You've done so much already. Listen, since you offered your condo, is it ok if we spend our Monday there? I'm worried Lei isn't getting much sunlight here in this room, anyway."

"Sure. No problem at all as long as you don’t forget about your briefing with the secretary later at four o’clock. You don't need to bill-out since all these are on Betty. Just call me or Betty whenever you have questions, concerns or problems, ok?"

"We surely will," Mitch shook Rosy's hand again who instead gave him a hug.

"I feel sorry I can't wait for Ricky and Thessa but be sure to mention to them I came here for a visit and hoped to have said hello to them before I left, darling." Rosy embraced Lei who thanked her again for her generosity and for all the help she has extended. Lei promised to relay Rosy's greeting to her parents, too.
