Glimpses Through The Rain - Chapter 2

CHAPTER 2

Mitch’s apartment was just a 10-minute drive away from the party’s venue and he found himself already home by 1:40 a.m. He took a quick shower, made a careful motion towards Lei, kissed her on her forehead and went straight to bed at her right side.

She was already sound asleep when Mitch came home from the party but she sensed a slight movement at her left side and felt his kiss on her forehead which made her half-conscious. But she ignored it probably thinking she was just dreaming then. After about an hour, she awakened for a sudden urge to pee. She slowly opened her eyes and found Mitch sleeping beside her. She wasn’t dreaming after all, she thought. She first kissed Mitch on his left cheek and then went to the ladies’ room as she strangely did every wee hour of each day for the past 2 weeks almost as a routine now.

Three days ago, she had a spotting which she thought was just the start of her menstrual cycle though the days following that incident, she did not have her period. She was not bothered at all because her period did not usually come in exact cycle-count. She thought maybe the following week it'll be there. But that morning when she woke up and saw Mitch lying on his side of the bed, she felt differently. She felt her heart thumped. Her heartbeat raced as if like a car running at a speed of about 100 km/h from what was normally just 20 km/h. She rushed to her bathroom drawer without any idea or whatsoever as to why she was looking for a certain thing; but deep down inside her somehow it made sense to her to search for that one thing, that special gadget which has the capability to confirm the most valuable news of all. She felt the place turned warm, back to being cold and then became warm again. She knew she had to find that thing. She really had to see that thing as quickly as possible otherwise she’d find herself go fainting out of unknown feelings battling against her chest. She also asked herself if what she was thinking would be possible when in fact she had a spotting, almost a menstrual period, earlier this week. She pushed that doubt out of her mind and went on searching for that one thing. After several attempts, she found it. She stayed in the rest room for 10 minutes more and when she got out she right away rushed to Mitch who was by then sleeping like a log.

“Mitch? Mitch? Mitch, wake up! I’m pregnant, Mitch!” she announced while shaking Mitch on his shoulders, almost like an impatient kid waking her mom up for breakfast to befed her.
